Skating Club of Novi
Established in 1998 with 25 members, the Skating Club of Novi is a volunteer organization that has been a member of the United States Figure Skating Association (USFS) since 1999. Since then, the club has grown to almost 150 members. The club is dedicated to the promotion of figure skating, and supports many activities at the Novi Ice Arena to further this goal.
The Skating Club hosts the Annual Ice Show in the early spring that showcases the talents of our Learn to Skate students as well as our recreational and competitive figure skaters. The show has everything from the group of adorable 3-year olds to the stunning soloist who competes nationally at a senior level. In addition, the club hosts the Annual Holid ay Exhibition in December.
The Skating Club of Novi also hosts USFS Competitions which bring competitive skaters from several Midwestern states into the arena. These competitions provide an opportunity for our local skaters to watch and participate in interstate competitions.
Our coaching staff is for all levels of skaters, from beginner to competitive; individual freestyle and dance.
The club also supports the sport of figure skating in many other ways. We supply information about the sport, local competitions and test sessions, skating professionals and other events. The club organizes USFS test sessions so competitive skaters can progress. We provide sound and video equipment that can be used by skaters and their coaches. Other Important Information:
Procedure for taking a USFS test
When we conduct test sessions at Novi, the schedule will be published in the newsletter and posted on the bulletin board. The completed application, along with the appropriate fees, should be deposited in the SCN mailbox located outside the Figure Skating Office. Applications are also available at the front desk. Make checks payable to “Skating Club of Novi”. No cash please.
We have a reciprocal arrangement with Artic Edge SC, Lansing SC, SA Plymouth, Farmington Hills FSC, and Westland FSC. All of these clubs within this group have waived the out of club fees for each other. However, if you are testing at any club other than Novi, including these five clubs, our test chair must sign the application. The test schedules for the reciprocal clubs are published in the newsletter and posted on the bulletin board. Usually the hosting club must receive the completed forms and appropriate fees two weeks prior to the test date.
To get a test form signed, the procedure is similar to getting a USFS competition form signed. Place the completed form (all other required signatures, test levels and USFS number completed) and deposit it in the SCN mailbox. Allow one week for the test chair to sign the form, and you may pick up your form by asking the front desk to retrieve it from the “Signed Forms” folder. The test chair must verify that the skater is a member in good standing and is eligible to take the test(s) marked.
Please do not wait until the last minute to get a signature. It takes time to verify the information and the test chair is not at the rink every day.

Procedure for Completing USFS Competition Forms
USFS competition forms usually require a signature from a club officer or test chair. The form will dictate who can sign it. Before an officer of test chair can sign the form, it must be completely filled out including all coach, parent and skater signatures and level to be competed. Once the form is completed, place it in the Skating Club of Novi’s mailbox located outside the Figure Skating Office. Please do not include the entry fee or mailing envelope with the form, we are not responsible for sending out competition forms. Within the week, you can pick up the form by asking the front desk to retrieve it from the “Signed Forms” folder.
By signing the form, the club officer or test chair is verifying that the skater is a member in good standing of the Skating Club of Novi and that the skater is eligible to compete at the level marked on the application. If the forms are signed without verifying information, we could jeopardize our status as a USFS club. Please do not wait until the last minute to get the signature. It takes time to verify the information and the officers and test chair are not at the rink every day.
